Who impressed: MX2 in Lommel!

Who impressed: MX2 in Lommel!

Jorge Prado: What a weekend it was for the Spanish sensation as he clinched his second GP overall win of the season. Despite his young age, you shouldn’t be surprised to see him win in the sand. At only his second ever GP last year at Assen he was battling with Jeffrey Herlings after all!

Make no mistake about it, to be able to ride that fast around a brutal sand track of Lommel – you are pretty special. It’s going to be exciting to see what Prado can do next year with another full winter behind him. Could he challenge for the title? It remains to be seen..

Pauls Jonass: The Latvian really is a new rider this year. Marc De Reuver has helped take him from a very good rider to the complete package.   He rode well to win the first moto but it was the second moto that was even more impressive under the circumstances. Jonass went down in the first corner. However, he didn’t panic, after remounting the bike he took his time to dust off all the sand and then got going again. He was over half a lap down on the pack but he stayed cool, calm and collected which is easier said than done.

He ended up working his way into a very impressive fifth. So far this year the Latvian is ticking all the boxes and it’s looking like he will be the World Champion come the end of the season.

Julien Lieber: It was a superb weekend for the Belgian at his home GP. The weekend started off great as he got the nod ahead of Kevin Strijbos to represent Belgium at the MXDN. Lieber will contest in the MX2 class on his LRT KTM.

Lieber then put in two good moto’s to finish fifth and second for third overall. He’s been kept off the podium for quite a while now but there’s no better place to get back on it than in front of his home fans. He will be hoping this won’t be the last podium and he can get back on it before the end of the season.

Conrad Mewse: The talented Brit can be a bit up and down but when he’s on it then there’s no doubting his speed and talent. Mewse was flying all weekend as he looked comfortable around the tough Lommel track.

The Brit ended up seventh overall as he continues to improve during the course of the season. He will want to break into that top five before the end of the season though. With the MX2 slot for team GB at the MXDN possibly up for grabs he will be hoping to get the nod.

Ben Watson: After being crowned the MX2 British Champion, the Hitachi KTM UK rider had another good weekend in the GP’s. He is very impressive in the sand and he showed that again this weekend by finishing eighth overall, it was great to see two Brit’s in the top ten!

One thing I would say about Watson is that during the last ten minutes he tends to lose a few positions, this weekend could have went even better for him as he had top five speed. If he can believe in himself a little bit more there’s no reason why he can’t get a top five overall before the end of the season. With these sort of results, it’s going to be tough for Hitachi KTM UK keeping him next year as he’s out of contract at the end of the season.
