Who impressed: MX2 class at RedBud Des Nations

Jorge Prado: Before the weekend all the hype was between Jorge Prado taking on Aaron Plessinger. Not only did the MX2 World Champion beat Plessinger but he also beat the 450 AMA National Champ – Eli Tomac the one time they went head to head. A statement was made by the current MX2 World Champion.

Prado won the MX2 overall and rode really well on race day when it mattered. The Spanish sensation has had a great season clinching his first World title and knowing him he’ll try and improve on any weaknesses he feels he might still have to better himself for the 2019 season.

Hunter Lawrence: The Aussie was making his debut with the Geico Honda team and despite limited testing Lawrence ran at the front of the MX2 class all weekend long. Lawrence will have good memories when he looks back at the Nations which took place at Matterley Basin last year as he won the overall.

Unfortunately, Lawrence had to be happy with second overall this year but he was the first MX2 machine across the line in the second moto so he can be happy with his riding. He’s now heading to the American paddock in 2019 in what will be a new challenge for him.

Dylan Ferrandis: It’s been a while since the French rider has competed against the GP riders as he’s been riding in America the past two seasons on a Star Racing Yamaha. Ferrandis just like he was when racing the GP’s is still as aggressive as ever!

Ferrandis ended up third overall in the MX2 class but he played his part for France as they won the Nations classification. It’s the sixth consecutive time the French have won the event and Ferrandis played his part.

Ben Watson: When representing your country for the first time sometimes it can be overwhelming and it proves to be too much for some riders to deal with. However, GB’s Ben Watson put on a good performance on his 2019 Kemea Yamaha.

The Brit improved dramatically this year and the pressure of racing for his country never seemed to phase him. Watson ended up fourth overall in the MX2 class and very nearly passed Prado in the final moto to show how well he was riding.

Michele Cervellin: Underrated. That would be the perfect word to describe the Italian who always seems to go under the radar but he’s improved a lot over the past twelve months.

Cervellin went 10-14 in the moto’s to end up fifth overall in the MX2 class. He played his part in the Italian team who ended up second overall which is very impressive.

Martin Barr: You really do have to be impressed with Barr’s performance at RedBud. Coming into the event after finishing fourth in the EMX250 Championship I don’t think too many people would have had him down to finish seventh overall in MX2 and beat the AMA Champ but that’s exactly what happened.

The conditions clearly suited Barr but he still beat a lot of talent on show and was the star man for team Ireland. 16-17 in the moto’s and beating big names such as Butron, Plessinger, Ostlund and Rodriguez to name a few shows Barr still has it. He’s set to leave the Revo Husqvarna team so hasn’t even got a ride for 2019 yet but his ride at RedBud should certainly help his case.
