Who impressed: MX2 – Bulgaria

In terms of the MX2 Championship chase things are looking incredibly good for Spanish sensation, Jorge Prado as he chases his first MX2 World title. It was a weekend that Prado probably should have lost a few points to his title rival Pauls Jonass  but he actually gained two points.

Prado went 2-1 to secure another overall victory and now leads the championship by thirty points with three rounds to go. It’s hard to bet against the young Spaniard now. The factory KTM rider clearly has great speed but when he has twenty-three holeshots on top of that, no wonder he’s leading the title!

Overall, it hasn’t been a great season for Hunter Lawrence as more was expected of him coming into the season. Before the start of the season, Lawrence was a World Championship title contender for the first time in his career.

The Aussie is ending a season on a high as he got back on the box in Bulgaria, that’s two in a row and the first time he’s done that in the World Championship. Lawrence had the speed to win the second moto but just couldn’t get around Prado but will be happy with his speed. He’ll be looking to win one of the three rounds remaining to end his GP career on a high before he starts his career in America.

Since moving to the F&H Racing team, Marshal Weltin has put in some good results and is getting used to the fast intensity at the front of the pack. Weltin had his best GP finish in Switzerland but he bettered that again in Bulgaria.

Weltin ended up an impressive sixth overall and it’s good to see the American end the season on a high. The F&H Racing team have decided to give the Turkish round a miss which means Weltin only has two World Championship races left in his career before he ages out, he’ll be looking to make the most of them.

What a weekend it was for German rider, Tom Koch as he had the best GP of his career. The Sarholz KTM rider finished thirteenth in the first moto which he’d have been more than happy with.

However, Koch did even better in the second moto as he came home in an impressive eighth. Koch seems to like those kind of tracks as he impressed in Germany earlier in the year but ninth overall in Bulgaria is a fantastic result. He will be hoping for plenty more results like that in the future.

Vamo Honda’s, Micha-Boy de Waal always shows good speed in the sand but could improve his hard pack riding but Bulgaria was a step in the right direction in that respect.

The Dutch rider did miss out on two top ten results but 12-14 was a very solid weekend and it secured him twelfth overall. Out of the rounds remaining, perhaps at Assen in front of his home crowd he can push for a top ten overall result.

Two riders that deserve a shout out are Michael Sandner and Hardi Roosiorg. Sandner was contesting his first MX2 World Championship round so would have been nervous but thirteenth overall is a solid result considering it was the first GP of his career.

As for Sahkar KTM rider, Hardi Roosiorg, he’s a lot more experienced when it comes to racing the MX2 World Championship. The Estonian is usually battling for points but Bulgaria was more positive as he ended up fourteenth overall.
