Who impressed: MX2 Arco

Who impressed: MX2 Arco

Jago Geerts: The Belgian teenager is really starting to show his level this season and if he had got better starts he could well have battled with Prado for the win!

Geerts rode superb in Arco coming from top five starts to work his way into second and even cut Prado’s gap from eight seconds to four in the closing laps of race two. Hard pack isn’t Geerts’ favourite surface so he will be encouraged that he was so competitive. If he gets away in the sand and believes in himself, he could be the closest challenger to Prado this year along with Olsen.

Jorge Prado: The Spaniard really makes it look easy! His style and technique is getting to the Stefan Everts level of effortlessly smooth and deceptively fast and frankly, it looks like he isn’t even pushing that hard.

We still have to see how he will fair if he ever has to come through the pack – if he ever gets a bad start! But Prado is showing zero stress in trying to get the red plate after missing Matterley and is only 20 points behind now with 14 rounds left. The rest need to figure out how to get consistent starts and then run that pace to even have a chance against this kid. He is something special.

Ben Watson: The Brit probably had his best performance of the year at Arco and came on really strong in the last half of both races. This was the level Watson wants to be at, but the starts are killing him and it has to be so frustrating when you see a load of riders between you and Prado out of turn one!

One of the bigger guys in the class, Watson has hardly seen the front of the pack all year and to beat Prado, even if you have the speed, you have to start with him. Watson appears to be getting the pieces of the puzzle back to together but better starts will give him a real chance to get the results his talent is capable of.
