Who impressed: EMX85 – Loket

What a weekend it was for South African talent, Camden Mc Lellan as he won the EMX85 title at Loket. Mc Lellan made the decision to come over to Germany this year with the Kosak KTM team and at such a young age it can be difficult to be away from home but he seems to have absolutely no problems adapting to life in Germany.

Mc Lellan went 1-2 to clinch the title which goes down as the best day of his career so far. He’ll be hoping to follow in Calvin Vlaanderen footsteps in becoming a top GP rider in the future now.

A lot of Dutch talents can ride sand but aren’t quite as good in hard pack but that’s certainly not the case for Kay de Wolf which is a good sign. It usually takes Dutch guys a while to learn the sand but for de Wolf to already be comfortable in these conditions is very promising for his future.

Unfortunately, de Wolf crashed at the start of the first moto but came from dead last to sixth, another lap and he’d probably have been fifth too! In the second moto he got the holeshot and the rest is history, he controlled the gap and pretty much dominated. The crash in the first moto cost him his title but he’ll be looking to clinch the Junior World Championship in Australia later in the year now!

Last year Liam Everts didn’t qualify for Loket but this is his second year on the 85cc and he’s improved massively. Over the winter he went to New Zealand to spend time with Ben Townley and then when he got back he had Stefan his dad put in the work with him.

Liam is still quite small for the 85cc so to get third overall is very impressive. If he continues to put in the work and when he grows a little more and gets more upper body strength he might be the guy to watch out for.

Things were looking really good for Kay Karssemakers in the first moto of the weekend as he was leading on the first lap and looking pretty comfortable. However, the young Dutch talent took a crash which cost him. He dropped back to ninth but got back up to fifth by the end of the moto.

In the second moto, Karssemakers came home in third but unfortunately for him it wasn’t good enough for a podium and he ended up fourth overall. Karssemakers has high expectations and was disappointed to miss the podium so he’ll work even harder to improve in the future.

One rider who was a bit of an unknown coming into Loket was young Spaniard, Raul Garcia Sanchez but he turned a few heads at the weekend. The Spaniard lead for a few laps in the first moto and was locked in an exciting battle with Everts, in the end he ended up third to keep his podiums hope alive.

Unfortunately, the young Spaniard didn’t get the start that was required in the second moto. He was buried down the order in thirteenth but came back up to a solid eighth. It meant he missed the podium but fifth overall is still a good result and he put his name out there at the weekend. He might just be the next big thing from Spain after Jorge Prado.

Starts weren’t kind to Yamaha’s Dave Kooiker in Loket as he was buried outside the top ten in both the moto’s. In the first moto, Kooiker came from thirteenth to a solid seventh. In the second moto he went one better as he came home in sixth to secure sixth overall.

Kooiker defiantly has speed but the starts cost him, if he managed to get out of the gate things could have been much different. One thing that’s nice to see is the young Dutch generation coming through don’t seem scared of the hard pack, hopefully they can transfer that when they move up to the bigger bikes.
