Who impressed: EMX250 in Russia!

Who impressed: EMX250 in Russia!

Simone Furlotti: After dominating the first round of the series in Italy, Furlotti finally won a round of the series again in Russia. In the first moto he got a good start in second and applied some pressure on Boisrame but he had to be happy with second spot. The second moto was going better as he was leading on the second lap but he unfortunately crashed out of the lead.

The Italian ended up finishing third in the second moto but that was good enough to win the overall. In terms of the championship it was a great weekend for the Italian as he has got the point deficient down to seventeen points. With four rounds left anything can happen but don’t rule the Italian out of the championship chase just yet.

Mathys Boisrame: The French rider only returned from injury at the last round in France but he’s showing he means business. After winning on his return in France it was looking like he’d make it two on the bounce in Russia. In the first moto he responded well to Furlotti’s pressure and ended up winning the moto by nearly seven seconds.

The Assomotor Honda rider didn’t get a good start in the second moto as he was buried down in tenth but he could work his way up to sixth by the end of the moto. It wasn’t good enough for the overall win but he still took second overall. If he continues to put in these kinds of performances throughout the rest of the season, then it wouldn’t surprise me to see him make the step to MX2 in 2018.

Dylan Walsh: The surprise package of the weekend has to be Dylan Walsh! Dylan who has been racing for most of his career in New Zealand made the move over to compete in the EMX250 class this year and the first four rounds haven’t gone to plan. He only managed to pick up eight points during the first four rounds.

However, we saw a totally different rider this weekend as he gelled with the track. In the first moto he was running third and stayed there for nearly half the moto. He actually picked up a flat tire on the fifth lap so did well to bring it home for a seventh. Due to the heavy overnight rain the riders faced a totally different track on Sunday but that didn’t bother Walsh as he came home in fifth to secure the third step on the podium. That’s Carglass-Honda’s first EMX podium as they are a new team in the paddock this year and they will be hoping for plenty more as the season progresses.

Jere Haavisto: The Finnish kid has showed us glimpses of what he can do so far this season but something he has struggled to do is put two good moto’s together on the same weekend – he has a lot of DNF’s to his name. That’s what he managed to do this weekend though!

In the first moto he was sitting in seventh before colliding with Kouwenberg. That pushed him down the pecking order but he could get back up to eighth by the end of the moto. He ended up eighth in the second moto too but battled with Jago Geerts and finished right on the Belgian’s back wheel. This should help Haavisto’s confidence and he will be hoping to build on from this. The target will be for him to break into the top ten of the series.

Tristan Charboneau: Making the move from the American paddock and it hasn’t been an easy transition due to a number of things but bike problems certainly haven’t helped. Unfortunately the American didn’t even get a lap in the first moto as his bike blew up just before the gate drop.

Charboneau didn’t let that affect him in the second moto as he finally got a good start, something he has been struggling with all year. After Furlotti crashed out of the lead the BUD Kawasaki rider found his way past Goupillon and never looked back! He took his first EMX250 moto win and despite his first moto DNF his best result with a sixth overall. He will be hoping for more results like this as he still has no plans for 2018 but with more rides like that it will help secure him a deal.
