Who Impressed: EMX250 – Arco di Trento

It’s amazing what a strong off-season and a switch of teams can do. Italian, Alberto Forato looks like a new rider this year after moving to the Maddii Husqvarna team. He went 1-1 yet again which means he’s won all four moto’s in the series so far this year.

It looks like he’s going to take some stopping. Forato is such a big guy it’s actually surprising he can go so fast on a 250cc. He might just have a great future in the MXGP class in the future.

French rider, Stephen Rubini wants to win so probably isn’t all that happy with his 2-2 and podium in Arco but he’s riding really well on the Assomotor Honda. It’s a shame he had a small crash in the first moto because it would have been interesting if he could have held off Forato but it wasn’t meant to be.

Rubini now has two podiums from the first two rounds but will work on getting his first win in the class. The French rider is certainly putting himself in the shop window for a good MX2 ride in 2020.

After a race DNF at Matterley Basin, the first round of the series didn’t go to plan for Giuseppe Tropepe. However, he bounced back at his home round of the series in Arco.

It was a consistent weekend for Tropepe in Arco going 5-3 in the moto’s and his consistency paid off with a third overall. He will hope for plenty more podiums as the season continues.

After a solid EMX250 debut at Matterley Basin, Rene Hofer was even better in Arco. It was nice to see the Austrian get a good start in the second moto because sometimes that can be a weak area for him.

The KTM rider ended up fifth overall and he’s happy with his start to the season but wants to be on that podium sooner rather than later. “Happy with my riding and 1 good start. We are getting closer to the podium. We will keep working”, Hofer commented.

One rider that’s really improved this year is Latvian, Karlis Sabulis who seems to be benefiting by making the switch to KTM. Sabulis got a great start in the first moto but perhaps a little bit too excited made a mistake on the first lap. He was able to remount and get back to a solid ninth though.

The second much went better as the WZ KTM rider came home in fifth which will give him confidence heading into the rest of the season but he knows the first lap mistake cost him a potential podium. “Could have, would have, should have. At least happy with my second moto from not so good start. Well, actually the first one was one to forget as well, which cost to me a podium, but I am super happy about all the improvements day by day I put in work”, Sabulis commented.

There’s no doubt that young French rider, Thibault Benistant has a lot of talent but he usually needs a year in a class before we see the best of him. However, in Arco he showed really good speed on his MJC Yamaha.

Benistant had really bad starts but went 15-9 to secure tenth overall. In the second moto he even closed the gap down to Roan van de Moosdijk but just couldn’t make a pass stick. That race will give the EMX125 champion a lot of confidence.

Two riders that deserve shout out’s are Glen Meier and Andrea Adamo. The EMX250 class hasn’t been easy for Meier but he’s made the switch to Yamaha for this year and it seems to suit him much better. The Dane ended up twelfth overall which is a step in the right direction.

As for Adamo, it’s his rookie season in the EMX250 class and he’s surprising. Fourteenth overall for the young Italian in what’s only his second EMX250 round shows he’s learning a lot.
