Who impressed: EMX125 – Assen

It’s been an up and down season for Raivo Dankers who came into the season as one of the favourites for the title but when you think he’s been riding for his own team his season has been pretty good. The young Dutch talent saved the best until last this weekend by winning the final round of the EMX125 championship.

Dankers went 4-1 to clinch the overall in what will be his last EMX125 race, he also ended up fourth in the championship. Dankers has already confirmed he will move up to the 250cc next year so his winter will be about getting used to the MX2 machine before his rookie season.

Young Dutch talent, Rick Elzinga has impressed at every round of the EMX125 Championship he’s raced this season it’s just a shame an injury ruined his chances of battling for the title. Elzinga went 2-3 for second overall to end his season on a high.

Like Dankers, Elzinga will move up to the 250cc machine next year so will spend his winter getting used to the bike. Fingers crossed he can stay fit and we can see what he really has to offer over the next few years. He’s a talent well worth looking out for in the future.

It’s hard to believe but Kjell Verbruggen helped make it a Dutch 1-2-3 in the EMX125 class at Assen. Verbruggen might just be a rookie after moving up from the 85cc last year but he’s showed impressive speed at times this year and especially in the sand.

If he can improve in hard pack and put in a strong winter then Verbruggen might just surprise people next year and battle for the title. He’s another young Dutch talent that’s worth keeping an eye on.

He might be French but Florian Miot saved his best race of the season for the sand of Assen which you wouldn’t put down as a strong track for him but he surprised at the weekend. In fact he just missed out on a podium which shows just how well he rode.

in the first moto, Miot was solid as he ended up in fourteenth and I’m sure after that he didn’t think he’d get near the podium! However, after a strong second moto finishing in second it was good enough for fourth overall and his best round of the season. His brother has made the decision to move up to the 250cc next year after signing with DIGA KTM but we still have to wait to hear what Florian will decide to do for 2019.

Young Finn rider hasn’t been in the GP paddock much this year but Matias Vesterinen decided to contest the final round in Assen and he can be happy about his performance. Vesterinen previously was with the DIGA KTM team but found the EMX125 class tough as a rookie.

Clearly Vesterinen has been putting in the hard work to improve and that showed in Assen as he ended up eleventh overall. The second moto was very impressive as he got a good start and was able to stay at the front coming home in fourth. After that result he might just show his face in the GP paddock more often in 2019.
