Weekend watch- Indonesia and Southwick!

Two very different destinations for MXGP and the AMA boys this weekend with both series’ riders having to adjust to something different.

For America it is their only sand race all year and a lot of the US-based riders have been posting their sand riding prowess this week as they prepare for ‘the Wick.’

David Vuillemin, who now coaches Dylan Ferrandis, posted an interesting theory on practicing and why he hates the perfectly groomed practice tracks most of the US guys now prepare on. DV who won GPs, supercross races and US motocross races, was used to riding, like the current GP men, on regular tracks that are rough and nasty, and he had Ferrandis practicing on just that this weekend.

So will Ferrandis’ imperfect track preparations beat the Americans this weekend in Southwick? And can anyone really get close to Eli Tomac in the sand, a circuit he usually excels at? Musquin gave Tomac something to think about recently but Tomac is still able to weather the storms that come his way, and has yet to lose an overall this season.

In MXGP it’s all eyes on Jeffrey Herlings, can he get close to the pace he had and keep the points lead or stay close to Cairoli in the title chase? Herlings has the blinkers on this year and he doesn’t want broken bones to yet again cost him another world title but he has opened the door for a very determined Cairoli who won’t want to let go of the opportunity for a tenth world title.

The weather will also be a talking point yet again with thunderstorms being given for both Saturday and Sunday in the area, so it could be anyone’s race again and Shaun Simpson is probably rubbing his hands together as we speak!

Tony Cairoli is famously not a fan of the mud and ruts so he may not be an automatic pick for the win now and the title chase could take a few more twists and turns over the next two weekends!

MX2 is also all to play for between Jonass and Prado but Prado’s not always been great in the mud so another test could be ahead of the him this weekend if the weather forecast proves accurate.

There will be plenty to watch this weekend in very contrasting conditions but it could throw up some interesting results!
