War of words: Searle v Simpson

War of words: Searle v Simpson

Tommy Searle has questioned Shaun Simpson’s early inclusion as the MX1 rider  in the 2015 British team for the up-coming MXDN in France.

Searle, speaking to Vurbmoto, implied he would be the better choice for the MX1 slot by saying:

“I think it’s really stupid actually that two riders (Shaun MX1 and Max Anstie MX2) have already been chosen for the team… Shaun, granted he’s had a couple good results in GPs but they’re 6th, 7th places. I’ve come back, done one (practice) race (in Sweden) and got 6th place. So for him to be given a MX1 already, des Nations is always something I do well at. I’ve been on the podium in my class every des Nations I’ve ever done, apart from the one in Lommel. So it’s always an event I go well at. In the past Shaun hasn’t gone so well at, like last year. So for the team to be picked already other than one spot.”

Simpson then hit back on twitter by saying: “Some people are so caught up in their own bullshit,,, let your riding do the talking…#OPEN.”

Simpson and Searle have always had a somewhat frosty relationship ever since a few hard fought battles back in 2008 when Simpson really came to prominence as a rival to Searle in MX2. Time appeared to have healed the wounds to a certain extent but Searle’s comments have re-ignited a feud that everyone thought had been put to bed.

Searle, who will almost certainly be the MX3 rider for the team, clearly isn’t sure that Simpson should be picked ahead of Wilson, if Dean comes back on form in the USA.

It could make for an interesting British team atmosphere between the two, with Max Anstie (picked as the MX2 rider) caught in the middle in France at the end of September!

It would also be pretty interesting if the two end up together on the track in Latvia this weekend at the GP!
