Before the season started you might have been quite surprised if someone told you that Calvin Vlaanderen would be representing the Netherlands at the Motocross Des Nations however, it’s now reality!
Vlaanderen has been one of the most improved riders in the MX2 World Championship this year without a doubt as he sits fifth in the series on his HRC Honda.
Vlaanderen was born in South Africa but left his home country when he was 15 as he now lives in the Netherlands and rides under the KNMV federation which makes him available for selection.
The HRC Honda rider had been using the South African flag when he got on the podium earlier in the season but they weren’t happy he was using their flag which is strange to say the least! Due to them not being happy, Vlaanderen now uses the Dutch flag which is completely understandable – the South African federation should have been proud to see him using their flag and seeing it on the podium at the highest level.
It’s now been revealed that Vlaanderen will race for the Netherlands at the Motocross Des Nations that will take place at RedBud in October and he’s called it a dream come true.
You can read his statement below:
Ik ben erg trots dat ik ben verkozen om Nederland te vertegenwoordigen op de MX des Nations. Ik ga heel mijn hart in de strijd gooien om samen met Jeffrey en Glenn voor het podium te gaan. Ik ben de KNMV erg dankbaar voor deze kans om mijn droom uit te laten komen. 🇳🇱🇳🇱 // I am really proud to be chosen to represent Netherlands at the MX des Nations. I will give my best together with Glenn and Jeffrey to put us on the podium. Big thanks to the KNMV for giving me this chance and for making my dream come true! 🇳🇱🇳🇱
