Canadian photographer Roddy MacLeod has spent the 2018 season following the world motocross championship and documenting his view in a unique book, Will to Victory.
Roddy sent us the following information on his project:
I’m happy to announce the online store for pre-ordering my book, Will To Victory, is open!
Inside the book you’ll find a refined selection of my photos from 15 rounds of the 2018 season showing the beauty and tragedy of the grand prix motocross circuit today. Tastefully laid out with space for each photo to breathe, we examine the state of the tracks today, sensitive portraits of the riders and fans, and of course, striking action from the world’s most demanding sport.
You’ll also find long form, exclusive, at home discussions with legends hogging 22 world championships between them. Stefan Everts, Joël Smets, Harry Everts and David Thorpe share everything from how they trained and set up their bikes to their mental preparation and race tactics. Among the highlights: Stefan describes how he set up a bubble around him at the track, Joël on the power and pitfalls of goal setting, Harry’s heart-wrenching story of his early life while King David reveals how he used math to beat the Belgians. Plus multi-time Irish and British national champion Gordon Crockard chimes in with his own story growing up the “son of a famous father” using both humour and heartache in a way only people from that island can.
The book also includes my own stories from the road presenting a round view of the grand prix circuit today. Originally the book was planned for 256 pages, but with the early drafts, I saw it just wasn’t enough. In order to include the best of everything, I made the decision this week to add another 32 pages! A 288-page visual and thoughtful probe into the will to victory.
