Van Horebeek talks about his win in Italy

Jeremy Van Horebeek took victory last weekend in the MX Elite race on Sunday during the second round of the 2016 Internazionali d’Italia Motocross at the Lamezia Terme track in Calabria. 2015 World Champion Romain Febvre did not start the main event after an unfortunate opening lap crash in the MX1 race sent the French rider to the hospital for stitches in his elbow.

Van Horebeek took a strong start in the Elite race to lead Evgeny Bobryshev on the hardpack, and kept the speed high in the tight but sandy turns. Pushing away from the rest of the pack, the two riders maintained a brisk and relentless competition until Bobryshev’s late mistake in a corner caused him to slip and lose contact with the Belgian Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team rider.

Kemea Yamaha Official MX Team rider Valentin Guillod finished the Elite race fourth ahead of DP19 Yamaha Official rider David Philippaerts in seventh in the MX Elite race. In the MX1 event it was Van Horebeek in second behind Bobryshev, with Guillod and Philippaerts in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

In MX2 young Swedish DP19 Yamaha Official MX Team rider Alvin Ostlund claimed the final podium step in third and his Italian teammate Morgan Lesiardo two spots back in fifth, while in the Elite race pitting the top 20 MX1 together with the top 20 MX2 it was Ostlund nearly cracking the Top 10 in 11th and Lesiardo right behind in 13th.

Jeremy Van Horebeek – Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team

“The track was pretty small with some jumps and some sandy corners, so the speed was high. I felt good all day long without taking any risks and got second in the MX1 with some really good starts both motos.
In the second moto it was a great battle with Bobryshev, and I am really happy to win yesterday. It gives me a good feeling for the start in Qatar in less than 20 days. I’m also really looking forward to do next week’s race in Italy for the final preparation.”

Massimo Rispanti – Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team

“Romain crashed right after the start and ended up with a cut in his elbow. He got some stitches but it seems to be nothing serious. It was a positive weekend, and Jeremy was riding good and showing good speed. The YZ450FMs were running very well on this track.”

“As for Romain we don’t know much so far, but we will issue an update when we know more.”
