Van de Moosdijk dominates EMX250 in Lommel and Sterry just misses podium – again!

Roan van de Moosdijk was in action in the EMX250 championship in Lommel – a race that’s only ten kilometres from his home town. He didn’t disappoint as he dominated the EMX250 series going 1-1. In the MX2 World Championship, Adam Sterry and Henry Jacobi showed good speed around the brutal sand track of Lommel.

MX2

Race One:

Both F&H Kawasaki riders took a good start in the first MX2 race of the weekend. German, Henry Jacobi was third on the first lap with Sterry just one behind. British rider, Sterry was really comfortable on the bumpy sand track and passed Jacobi. Sterry was comfortable in third until Jago Geerts passed him. The 23 year old didn’t give up though and passed Vialle to cross the line in third – a good moto for the Brit who’s been riding well lately. Jacobi struggled to find his rhythm on the tough track at the beginning so lost some positions. In the end he ended up eighth as he started to ride with a better flow towards the end of the race.

Race Two:

Jacobi took another good start in the second race as he was sat in third. However, he lost two positions to Watson and Kjer Olsen at the beginning. Unfortunately, Jacobi suffered from a crash towards the end of the moto which dropped him down to thirteenth but he did make one pass to end up finishing twelfth. Sterry couldn’t benefit from a good start like in the first moto so had work to do but rode really well and looked at home on the tough track. Sterry made some passes and came home in sixth.

Sterry ended up fifth overall but missed the podium by one point just like in Loket – it’s frustrating because he has the speed to get on the box. Jacobi ended up ninth overall.

EMX250

In the EMX250 class, Roan van de Moosdijk was in a class of his own all weekend long with no one able to get remotely close to him. In the first moto he didn’t take an amazing start as he was in sixth but he took his time to work to the front and didn’t rush into it. At the ten minute mark, van de Moosdijk got into the lead and didn’t look back – he was gone at the front and looked to have fun around the bumpy track.

The second moto was more straight forward for van de Moosdijk as he got the holeshot and cleared off at the front. He had a lead of over 30 seconds which shows just how good he was riding – it was fun watching him hop and skip over the big bumps. He was so far ahead he even had time to take a crash but it didn’t do any harm. 1-1 in what was total domination. He’s now got the red plate and an eleven points lead heading into the final round in Sweden.

Adam Sterry: “I was happy with my riding all weekend, but of course a little disappointed in the end as the podium was there until the crash in the second moto. I couldn’t see Henry’s bike on the ground as it was behind a jump and that crash cost me this podium. Again I missed it by one point, but I have to take the positives and I was happy with my starts and my riding.”

Henry Jacobi: “I wasn’t feeling really good with the track in the first race; I had a good start but my race was really tough as I couldn’t find my rhythm and in the sand you lose so much power when the rhythm is not good. I got another good start in the second race and let some guys pass me as the goal was to have a good rhythm; mid-race I regained some positions until I stalled the bike in the take-off before a jump. I crashed, couldn’t start the bike so fast and could finish only twelfth. It could have been a better day!”

Roan van de Moosdijk: “My start was really good and I could control the race all the way. At the end my legs were getting tired and I made a little mistake when I hit neutral and buried the clutch in the sand but we got up again and still had a big lead. I wasn’t thinking about the points during the race so I didn’t realise until the finish that we also have the red plate to take to the final round. It’s always been my dream to earn the red plate and to do it so close to home with so many friends here is also a bonus; my thanks to everyone in the F&H Racing Team, the sponsors, Kawasaki and my trainer because they have all played their part in this.”

Next race:

There’s a weekend off in the World Championship calender but it’ll resume next weekend in Imola, Italy. A week later the final round of the EMX250 series will take place in Sweden.
