Tough Start for Baggett & Bogle at Anaheim 1 SX

Tough Start for Baggett & Bogle at Anaheim 1 SX

Rain didn’t deter racing fans as the gate dropped on the first round of the 2019 Supercross season opener, taking over Angel Stadium of Anaheim CA this past Saturday night. It was a tough night for team riders Blake Baggett and Justin Bogle, as they kicked off the new season.

Blake Baggett comes into the 2019 season ready and showed he will be a contender this year as he put down a heater in the closing minutes of practice to earn himself the top qualifier spot. He continued the momentum into his heat race, where he used every bit of power from his FMF Racing exhaust to round the first turn with the holeshot. He kept the charge, hit his marks finishing 3rd to transfer straight to the main event.

As the sky opened up with rain, Blake launched out of the gate on the main event and round the first turn just outside the top ten. From there, he would have a tough time finding his groove on the slick and rain-drenched track and would slide back a few spots. Blake continued to charge in the challenging conditions, fighting back to finish the night in 12th place.

“Tonight was a struggle,” said Baggett. “I had the speed all day. It’s unfortunate I didn’t get the start I needed, and the conditions made the track very challenging. The most important thing is we leave A1 healthy and looking forward to Glendale next weekend.”

Justin Bogle came in ready as he made his racing debut with the team, filling in for the injured Benny Bloss. With only a few days on the bike prior to Anaheim, Justin looked comfortable on his new ride and posted the 19th fastest time of the day. In his heat race, Justin would let his Dunlop’s dig for traction at the start and found himself running just behind his teammate. He would hold on to that position at the finish, transferring to the main event.

In the main, Justin found himself with good position and battling early in the race inside the top ten. He slid back a few spots by mid-race, and as he pulled a tear-off from his Scott goggles, looked to be putting in a charge forward until going down in the sloppy conditions. Justin would remount, finishing the night in 19th place.

“It was a tough night,” said Bogle. “I felt good all day. It was unfortunate with the track conditions. We’ll build off this race, go back and do some work this week and come out swinging at Glendale.”

With round 1 out of the way, Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS now travels to Glendale, AZ and State Farm Stadium for round two of the 2019 Supercross Series.
