Tough day at home GP for Bobryshev

Evgeny Bobryshev returned home this week for the MXGP of Russia. Located on the coast of the Black Sea the picturesque Orlyonok circuit played host to the world’s fastest motocross racers on Monday and Tuesday. Bobryshev enjoyed much attention and support from his hometown fans and countrymen, he was determined to give those followers something to cheer about.

Bobby once again found it difficult to match the might of the factory machines out of the gates. This resulted in the Russian being caught up in some first corner carnage in the qualification race. The BOS GP racer was able to remount and fight back to 15th position. Evgeny picked up a slight ankle injury in this qualification race, but it takes more than that to put a stop to the hardy Russian.

Bobryshev slotted his BOS GP Suzuki into 15th position as the pack began lap one of the first moto on Tuesday afternoon. The Russian was able to make a quick pass on Arminas Jasikonis to take over 14th on the opening lap. Bobryshev followed that up with a pass on Ivo Monticelli just one lap later. For the next ten minutes Bobryshev chased a pack of fiercely battling riders that included Glen Coldenhoff, Romain Febvre, Alessandro Lupino and Jeremy Seewer. A crash from Glen Coldenhoff promoted Evgeny into 12th position. With just over ten minutes left on the clock Bobby slipped back to 13th position as Arminas Jasikonis put on a late surge through the pack. As the race came to a close Bobryshev continued charging forward, finding himself tantalisingly close to the rear wheels of Beniot Paturel and Alessandro Lupino. However, with time running out Bobby would have to settle for 13th.

Bobryshev found himself buried in 20th as race two got underway. He managed to make quick passes to finish lap one in 18th position. The Russian spent the next 15 minutes desperately clawing his way up the leader board. With 10 minutes left to go Bobryshev passed Jose Butron for 15th. By this point Bobby had lost the tow on the rest of the pack, with 14th place man Ivo Monticelli over five seconds ahead. Refusing to give up, Bobryshev continued charging forwards. With two laps to go Evgeny had finally made up enough ground on Monticelli to make a pass for 14th. This was as far as the Russian could advance, meaning that he walked away from his home GP with 14th overall.

Evgeny Bobryshev – ‘‘I couldn’t get a good start all weekend. I didn’t make a great jump on Monday for the qualification race and that caused a crash for me. I damaged my ankle, I twisted it pretty bad, so that was hurting all day. But I was on the pain killers, which helped to reduce the pain a lot. But the main problem for me on race day was that I just couldn’t get the start. I just can’t pull a good start, right out the gate I’m already losing metres. By the time we hit the first corner I was around 20th position. So that was the problem today. I started way back and then at the beginning I struggled to pass and get through all the other guys. It was a difficult track to pass on, so I would lose time and all the guys up front were just gone. I started both races just inside the top 20 and could only make 13th and 14th. I’m disappointed you know, I’ve been really frustrated with the starts. It’s difficult when you don’t get the starts to better those results, physically I was feeling good, the chassis on the bike was working well but I just couldn’t get forward.
I don’t know at the moment what is going to come in the future. I hope to plan some testing in the near future but right now it’s a really busy time with racing so for sure we won’t be making any changes right now. But maybe when we have a bit of a gap we can do some testing and improve the engine for good starts and better racing.’’

Evgeny Bobryshev will be back in action this weekend at Blaxhall for round three of the Maxxis British Motocross championship.
