Current MXGP commentator Paul Malin was once the young hotshot of the sport as he led the world at Namur as a teenager and battle Kawasaki teammate, and three-time world champion, David Thorpe, for the moto win at Namur.

Thorpe, despite being defending champion in 1990, struggled to adapt to the factory Kawasaki after years on HRC Honda, but always went well on the famous old circuit.

The young teenager Malin also showed the new elbows-up GP style of the 90s, inspired by US supercross, in comparison to the older 80s style of many of his 500 rivals.

Malin of course would be the 125 rider in the GB Nations team, managed by Thorpe, that would break the USA’s MXDN win steak in 1994.
