Sven van der Mierden future plans revealed

Sven Van Der Mierden’s recovery from back injury is heading towards a positive outcome. The Dutch rider, who finished fifth on the 2018 Dutch Masters of Motocross series and who had scored a number of GP points, broke his back during a training session at Arnhem last year. This meant a protracted recovery period for him, but the moment is soon approaching that he can get on the bike again.

Van der Mierden has been sharpening up on his physical fitness for some time already, and it has been going well. He has had some gentle outings on the bike, and has felt no discomfort from his back. He wanted to reassure himself that this was the fact before committing to future plans.

JHMX Service from Gemert proved to be the ideal partner for Sven during his comeback to top level racing. They understand that he needs time to get back to top level. In the interim they have prepared a KTM SX-F450 to race spec for him, and he will soon be able to resume training.

Since Sven has at least one more operation planned, namely to remove the plates from his back in June, he will use the preparation this year to get fitter. He will make a joint decision with the team as to when racing activities will resume.

“It’s been a long, hard road back , but we are at a point where I can at least ride again. We will build up my condition, fitness and strength without rushing, and then we will see when I can line up for a start again. The plan is to use this year to get back to full fitness and to resume racing in 2021. I am eternally grateful that Jan Heusschen gave me this opportunity and is supporting me in this. The JHMX bikes are always at top level, and with his experience to back me, I can focus only on the riding. After having not ridden for such a long time, of course I am looking forward to it,” Sven said.
