Saneyei: Pretty banged up

The first round of the 2019 MXGP World Championship saw the DRT squad head out to Argentina. Focusing solely on the MX2 class, Darian Sanayei (#57) and Gustavo Pessoa (#56) will be the boys on green representing the Dixon-tuned Cosworth KX250.

Darian Sanayei –
Having spent the Winter recovering from his 2018 Knee Injury, things were looking promising on Saturday with Darian posting the 2nd fastest time in timed practice – the speed was good. Unfortunately a bike issue in the qualifying race cost the weekends gate pick. Although in the first race the #57 was able to work his way from the back to 13th, the second race proved more difficult. Feeling weak from an illness, he landed in a hole around 4 laps in which sent him flying into a fence and was forced to retire. Although nothing is broken he’s a bit sore and bruised and will be resting up and getting checked out before the MXGP of Great Britain in a few weeks.

Gustavo Pessoa –
A mistake in the last lap of the qualifying race cost Gustavo a few places, eventually finishing in 18th. Pushing towards the top ten in both races Gustavo struggled slightly with endurance and decided to ride more conservatively to ensure he made no dangerous mistakes that could cause a crash. A good solid start to the season with plenty of room for improvement.

Steve Dixon – Team Manager
“This weekend we saw a great effort for 12th in race one, but Darian was done, the medics gave him the ok to race but he had no energy and crashed hard but with no injuries as such. He will recoup in USA for a week or so. A great well done to Gustavo for two 16th. Onto Matterley next, know ever said racing was easy! But it’s a long season.”
