Rumour: Valentin Guillod looking to head to USA in 2019?

Valentin Guillod has spent the past three years competing in the MXGP World Championship and after a strong year as a rookie finishing ninth in the series on his Kemea Yamaha things haven’t gone according to plan.

Despite an impressive rookie season, Guillod didn’t have too many options before inking a deal with the Assomotor Honda team. For the 2018 season, the Swiss talent has been with the Standing Construct KTM team but unfortunately he picked up an injury coming into the season. Guillod made his return to race at Matterley Basin and has showed some good speed and results.

Guillod and the Standing Construct team signed a one year contract with an option of another year but if rumours are to believed then they might be parting ways at the end of the season.

It’s thought the Swiss rider feels a lot more comfortable on the 250cc and there’s been rumours that he’s trying to secure a ride in the American paddock. After hearing the rumour I contacted the team and they confirmed Guillod would like to jump on a 250cc again as it’s clear for everyone how amazing his riding is on the 250cc.

If Guillod fails to land a ride in America and doesn’t stay with the Standing Construct team then he may still have to look for another ride in the MXGP paddock in 2019.

There’s a strong possibility that the Standing Construct team will head into the 2019 season with an all new rider line up. The team have already confirmed Glenn Coldenhoff and with names like Max Anstie and Jeremy Van Horebeek available they certainly aren’t short of options if they need to replace Guillod. The team have also been linked to Ivo Monticelli who has showed promise on his I-Fly JK Yamaha this year.
