Rumour: Herlings injured?

We are hearing reports from a few sources that Jeffrey Herlings has crashed in Albaida, Spain with early reports suggesting he had broken his ankle or leg, but now it appears he may have broken a couple of bones in his foot (“two shattered metatarsals” are being reported in Belgian media).

It would be a terrible blow for the fastest man on the planet this close to the season when he was looking to defend his MXGP world title to bring his tally for world championships to five, but now Cairoli looks to have a big chance of his tenth!

UPDATE* Red Bull KTM have confirmed Jeffrey Herlings has indeed suffered a foot injury and has already had surgery.

The factory team commented: “Jeffrey Herlings is recovering from surgery on his right foot last night after a crash while training. The MXGP world champion came through the procedure without a problem. A press release will be issued with more details & the expected recovery time. #getfitsoon.”
