Rider Column: Kevin Horgmo – his season and building for 2018!

We are always working hard behind the scenes to try and improve the website and one thing we have decided to implement is a rider column section.

The first rider we have managed to secure is the talented, Kevin Horgmo. You can read his first column here. Make sure you continue to look out for more rider columns as the season progresses!

First off, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Kevin Horgmo, I am 17 years old and from Norway. I have been riding mx since I was 6 years old and have a dream to live off riding motocross. Last year I rode the EMX125 class, I had a great year and finished 4th in the European championship and 3rd in the junior world championship. After the season, I moved to the 250cc bike, I finished my season at the MXON riding for Norway. I feel good on the 250 already, after I have gotten about 60 hours on the bike since my move.

This autumn I have been more focused on strength training and cardio, getting in shape before starting mx preparation. I have a solid program with my trainer Kenneth Gundersen, and have been feeling a lot of improvement. In this time of the year it’s a bit hard to ride in Norway as it’s very unsure how the weather is. It’s first when the snow come and the ground gets icy that you can ride, then we ride with the spike tyres. Before on the 85’s I was always riding all winter on the spike tyres, but now we go to Spain instead.

The plan from now on is to go to Spain and Redsand, I will go down there on the 26th December and will stay there for mostly all January and February. My trainer Kenneth has 3 training camps of 10 days there, so I will be really prepared for the season.

Last year I injured my shoulder mid-season, I was not riding and not training any cardio until the end of December. I was very weak in my arms and hadn’t the best stamina, but we made a great season anyway. So hopefully with a perfect off-season, this season will top that. I am really looking forward to racing again, and is excited to see how I will do against the other guys in the EMX250 class. I’m not one of the guys that says, “oh I will finish top 3” or whatever. I like to wait and let the results speak instead. But this year I really feel like I have a good shot at some podiums throughout the season.

Christmas is my favourite time of the year, every year we start the 24th with mølje (special Norwegian dish) together with my mom’s family. Then at the evening we go to my dad’s family and eat Christmas food and open presents. Of course, the presents are really nice, but the time with the family is something I really appreciate. That’s because for the rest of the year, I don’t have much time to hang out as I am traveling all over Europe. So, I want to wish you a merry Christmas, and a happy new year!
