Richard Bird on moving to Allmoto Yamaha

For the past ten years, Richard Bird has been riding a KTM but for the 2020 season he has decided to swap orange for blue after inking a deal with the Allmoto Yamaha team. It was a tough decision for Bird to leave the Suitor Brothers/Norman Watt KTM setup but felt it was the right time for a change.

During the winter, Bird spent some time out in Spain at Redsand getting the bike setup and getting comfortable on the 450cc Yamaha. When the season finally gets underway after the Coronavirus situation, Bird will hope to be right at the front on the Yamaha.

“I will be riding for Allmoto Yamaha this year, I got talking to Derek (Traynor) back in September and he offered a deal for 2020. I got a run on a 2020 Yamaha to see what I thought and straight away I felt comfy on it, so it was a deal that was hard to turn down, all the lads are 100% and are there to help anyway they can. I was riding a KTM for 10 years and just thought it was time for a change to try something different and bring a bit more excitement into it for me”, Bird told GateDrop.com.

“All pre-season was going good we spent couple weeks in Spain sorting bikes and all out, Myself, Steve and the team were ready to go racing unfortunately the crazy world we are living in has put a stop to it at the moment. We are just going to have to take it week by week to see what happens but hopefully we will all be behind the gate soon”, added Bird.
