Tim Gajser holeshot and dominated the MXGP qualifying in Indonesia with ease but Max Anstie kept British interest high passing Tonus and Coldenhoff to take a strong second on the jump-filled circuit.

Coldenhoff had been running second and would end up third with Febvre, who looked strong, coming through the pack and passing Tonus for fourth late on.

An uneventful MX2 qualifying race in Indonesia saw Jorge Prado holeshot and win on what was a slick track after rain before the start of the moto. Mitch Evans was keeping Prado honest until a small mistake saw him lose touch as Prado found his rhythm. Thomas Olsen held off a determined Vialle for third with Calvin Vlaanderen having a good comeback ride in fifth.
