Remembering Donny Schmit

Remembering Donny Schmit

Steve Matthes has produced a brilliant podcast looking back at the life of the late, great Donny Schmit.

Schmit, who won a 125 supercross title plus two world motocross titles, tragically died due to illness in 1996 just two years after retiring from GP motocross.

Davey Coombs, Bobby Moore and Mitch Payton, among others, give their memories of the US legend and give an insight into the super-competitive and ferocious trainer but also the very nice guy that Donny was.

I remember seeing Donny racing at the Irish GP in 1992 (the year he won the 250 world title) when I was just eight years old, he was one of the first elite world champion calibre riders I had the pleasure of seeing race in person and always appeared to be a very genuine and nice guy.
