Regan Duffy to stay in Australia despite GP interest

There’s a number of Aussie’s in the GP paddock this year – Mitch Evans, Jed Beaton, Wilson Todd, Nathan Crawford and Bailey Malkiewicz. It’s fair to say that the latest Aussie riders have a lot of talent.

17 year old, Regan Duffy had his first race outside of Australia at last years Motocross Des Nations in Assen and he really impressed on the 450cc. As a result, Duffy had genuine interest from GP teams (most likely to race MX2) and rightly so because he really looks a talent.

However, the Aussie has decided to stay in his home country for one more season to race the MX2 class once again and try to go for the title. With Dylan Walsh back racing in Australia those two should battle for the title.  Duffy’s plans still aren’t official but he did confirm he had meetings with GP teams but feels he needs one more year in Australia – hopefully in 2021 he will feel ready to make the move.

“I had a few [European] teams talking to me, I met some people and had some meetings. But I stayed with the thought that I need another year here – not as a rider, but as a person”, Duffy told MotoOnline.com.au.

“I’m still a kid now – I’m six months away from even being an adult, so I didn’t really want to rush into anything. If something goes wrong over there, I’m all on my own”, Duffy added.
