Tim Gajser gave Tony Cairoli his first defeat of the year in moto one after the Italian had a terrible start, but normal service resumed in race two as Cairoli won easily to take the Italian International motocross title when Gajser crashed hard after clipping the bank while following Cairoli on lap one.
In the first moto Gajser had held off a determined Febvre to win his first race of the year, ironically at the track that destroyed his 2018 world title aspirations before the GP season had even started!
Cairoli worked his way up to third in the first moto after unusually being buried at the back of the pack going around turn one.
In MX2 Jorge Prado took the win after passing impressive early race leader Brian Moreau and the Spaniard would make the podium in the Superfinal with a third, passing a fearless MX2 rookie Tom Vialle with just a a few minutes to go to be the top MX2 machine.
After a good first moto, Romain Febvre ended up getting run over in turn one in race two after a big pile-up and DNF’d, while Gajser would thankfully remount and get back to fifth, after getting highsided by the protruding bank.
