The expert MX1 class provided some amazing racing with three different race winners. James Mackrel was the most consistent man to win the overall on his MX1 KTM debut.

In the first moto, Mackrel had the early lead but John Meara was on the charge, closed down the gap put a lot of pressure on Mackrel but he held on for the win.

The second MX1 moto was the best race of the day as Mackrel, who has his starts dialled had the early lead but this time Jason Meara closed down the gap. With two laps to go the pair swapped positions a few times before Meara made a pass stick for the moto win.

John Meara got the holeshot in the third moto and never looked back. He dominated the final MX1 race of the day and showed just what he could do with a good start. However, James Mackrel ended up winning the overall during a strong showing on his KTM 450cc debut.

Richard Bird who won the championship last year missed the podium by a point so had to be content with fourth overall with Robert Hamilton rounding out the top five.

Mackrel also contested the MX2 class on his Yamaha which meant he had six moto’s on the day to really test his fitness.

He was pretty dominate in the MX2 class as he went 1-1-1 to secure the overall but the final race of the day was dramatic as he edged out Jordan Keogh by just 0.001 of a second – talk about close!

The consistent Jake Sheridan had a good day to earn a second overall but will want to win more races as the season progresses.

The smooth David Galvin ended up fourth overall with Matthew Loughlin rounding out the top five on his Yamaha.

Jack Daly and Conor Mullan won the semi expert MX1 and MX2 classes.

Taking the honours in the clubman class was Eoin Duffy (MX2) and Terence McGlone (MX1).
