Quick thoughts: MXGP of Czech Republic – Loket

Quick thoughts: MXGP of Czech Republic – Loket

  • Two championships nearly decided: Both Tim Gajser and Jorge Prado are agonisingly close to clinching the MXGP and MX2 World Championships respectively. At this stage it would take something big for them not to end up champions in their classes.
  • Bumpy track: The Loket track was really tough – one of the tougher tracks so far this year. It was nice to see a track get really bumpy as some of the tracks haven’t been getting as rough as they should this year. Youthstream did level the track again overnight but if there’s one GP were that’s understandable, it’s this one with the 65cc and 85cc out there first thing on Sunday morning.
  • Less ruts than usual: Youthstream have been ripping the hard pack tracks really deep this year which has seen a lot of ruts and what appears to be a lot of line choices. Sometimes when you rip the track deep though there’s still only one good line. They decided not to rip the track as deep for Loket and it worked out brilliant, especially on Saturday. It meant riders could form their own lines and passing opportunities wasn’t an issue. It did get relatively one lined on Sunday but sometimes that can happen. The track prep for Loket was improved from some GP’s this year, hopefully they continue.
  • Febvre superb: When there’s no ruts. Febvre is great at putting the bike were he wants and forming some great lines. The Factory Yamaha rider was superb in Loket and deserved his 1-1.
  • Sterry on form: The Brit was superb on his F&H Kawasaki and ended up second in moto two to just miss out on the podium. That can of ride won’t do his Motocross Des Nations chances for team GB any harm at all.
