Pootjes shows good speed in Arco and Olsson qualifies for EMX250

The fourth round of the 2019 MXGP season took place in Pietramurata, Italy. Next to the MXGP the second round of the EMX250 was held, too.

The start of the weekend for Davy Pootjes was promising. The young Dutchman came with a lot of self-confidence from his home race in Valkenswaard to Italy. In the timed practice, Pootjes rode the fifth fastest time, but had bad luck in the qualification race with a first lap crash. In the end he finished 22nd and had an difficult initial situation for the starts on Sunday.

In Race 1 on Sunday the start wasn’t good. In the end of the first Lap Pootjes was 17th, but could fight through the field to position 13. With just a few laps to go Pootjes had to stop the race with a technical defect, while he was chasing the riders in front of him. In the second race the start was better and Pootjes came back from the first lap in position 11th. In total Pootjes was able to pass one more rider till the end of the race and he had a solid finish on position 10.

Davy Pootjes: “It was a difficult weekend, I felt good on the bike actually and I had the speed for the top 5. Time practice with P5 was really good, but I had bad luck in the qualification race with a crash in the first lap. In the first race I got a bad start and came back to 13th and I was chasing the riders in front of me, but unluckily my bike stops. In the second race I got 10th, but it was so difficult to pass on this track. I’m a bit disappointed but the riding was good and we are on a good way.”

In the EMX250, Filip Olsson qualified as a rookie the first time since he is riding on the DIGA-Procross Husqvarna FC250. In race one on Saturday evening he made it to P32 and in the second race on Sunday he got 34th.

Justin Amian: “All in all it was a difficult weekend for the team. Davys speed was really good and he has the potential to ride in the front group. Now we need to analyse why the bike stopped in Race 1 and to find and erase the mistake. For Filip I’m happy that he made the qualification to the races. For him it’s important to have as much bike time as possible.”
