Podium for Jay Wade in Spain!

Podium for Jay Wade in Spain!

The GP track of Talavera held the 3rd round of the Spanish Championship at the weekend with 46 riders entered in the 125 class. Setting quickest lap times in free practice Eddie
was ready for qualifying, he set 2nd quickest knowing his flying laps were spoiled both times by another rider losing over a second in the last sector each time, so for the race he was not only in a good position and confident he had the pace.

In race one he didn’t quite get the hole shot but was in first place by the 2nd corner. The
track had just been freshly watered before the race so some areas were very slippy, all the
riders were very tentative on the first lap. On the 2nd lap Eddie took a wide line to avoid a
muddy patch but 2nd place man risked it to take first place. By the 4th lap Eddie was back
on a charge to take back the lead and for the next 4 laps the battle between 1st and 3rd
was immense, with the 3 riders pulling away from the rest of the pack either one was on
for the win. Each encountering 4 and 5 back markers at a time it was like Russian
roulette picking their way through. On a scrub jump one of the slower riders had fell
Eddie managed to brake and swerve to avoid him but it let 3rd place man through
dropping Ed to 3rd with 2 laps to go and now a big gap to 2nd he just managed to
hang on to the flag.

For the second race on Sunday Eddie could taste victory everything went perfect in warm up the track conditions were a lot wetter than the day before. He had a perfect start with the hole shot and started to eek out a gap by the 5th lap settling into a blistering rhythm only to be caught out by a rock dislodged in a rut losing the front end and going down. Remounting as quickly as possible he had dropped to 3rd charging back he caught sight of the leaders, within 2 laps he was back to 2nd closing down the leader but just running out of time he had to settle for 2nd.

Coming away with 2nd overall and still 2nd in the championship but he is still confident he can take a win. Now ready for Kegums and looking forward to riding in the sand again.
