Philip McCullough to lead Ireland in 2017

Philip McCullough to lead Ireland in 2017

A change was made for the Irish Motocross Des Nation team this year as Philip McCullough was given the role as team manager.

McCullough helped lead the team to twentieth overall even though Irwin couldn’t take part on race day due to a dislocated collarbone. This was a very good result all things considered. Martin Barr and Stuart Edmonds rode their hearts out and won the B final to get to the main races.

The commission held a meeting this week and they have decided to give McCullough the team manager role which means he will lead the team at the 2017 Motocross Des Nations. With it recently being announced that the event will be held at Matterley Basin the team should get plenty of support as it’s close to home.

Hopefully next year no top Irish riders get injured and we can go their with the best team possible which will be left for McCullough to pick!

Philip McCullough: “It was an honour for me to get selected again for the role of Team Manager in 2017, especially so soon after arriving home from Italy.  With the event now being staged in the U.K. the logistics won’t require just as much organising compared to the original plans for it to be in the US, with the experience I gained this year in Italy my plan is to make next years MXON even bigger and better for Team Ireland”.
