Paturel: I was thinking about quitting!
Since making the move up to the MXGP World Championship after a successful career in MX2, things haven’t gone according to plan for French talent, Benoit Paturel.
Paturel’s future was uncertain at the end of 2019 but Jacky Martens decided to snap him up for the 2020 season to ride under the JM Honda Racing team’s awning. There’s no doubt Paturel has a lot of talent but it’s going to be super important for him to stay injury free this year so he can get a full season under his belt in MXGP.
For the season ahead, Paturel will also be working closely with his new trainer and former MXGP rider, Joël Roelants which should help the French rider progress. Paturel has admitted that he was thinking about quitting racing professionally before the opportunity came from JM Honda for 2020.
“I had a tough two first years in MXGP so I’m super grateful to get this opportunity with JM Honda Racing. Honestly before this chance came along, I was thinking about quitting as a professional rider. My winter preparation with my trainer Joël Roelants has gone really well and we’re heading in the right direction. To get back to the cutting edge is hard but that’s what everyone is working for from Jacky (Martens) our team coordinator Björn to the mechanics and sponsors. I can’t wait to start the season in Matterley Basin next week”, Paturel stated.
