MXGP: Six rounds – Four winners!

MXGP: Six rounds – Four winners!

We are already six rounds into the MXGP World Championship season and the series has produced some fantastic racing so far. Gautier Paulin pulled off one of his best GP victories at the MXGP of Europe in the sand of Valkenswaard to become the fourth winner so far this year. Considering we have only had six rounds it’s pretty cool that we have saw four different guys win already.

Paulin joined Simpson, Cairoli and Gajser in winning a GP this year. When you think of the talent that’s still waiting for their first GP victory of the year it shows how incredible the depth of the field is. World Champions, Jeffrey Herlings and Romain Febvre still haven’t got that winning feeling in 2017 yet and they will be looking to change that as soon as possible. Herlings came so close to winning at Valkenswaard but it’s pretty clear his starts are letting him down badly, he needs to get out in the top five this weekend in Latvia to have any chance of victory.

One of the biggest disappointments so far this year has to be Romain Febvre, it hasn’t been a good year so far. However, in the second moto at Valkenswaard he showed his speed and that should give him confidence coming into Latvia. It will be tough for him to win at Latvia but he needs a good result to build up his confidence. When the series returns to hard pack that is when we will hopefully see the best of Febvre where we can hopefully see him battle for that GP win.

Other riders that still haven’t got a win are Clement Desalle, Jeremy Van Horebeek, Max Nagl and Glenn Coldenhoff just to name a few! The depth in the class is incredible, there are so many riders capable of winning on their day. During the second moto in Valkenswaard we witnessed all the top contenders on the limit and riding incredibly well.  The depth of the World Championship adds excitement and you would think a GP win is just around the corner for some of the mentioned riders.

We head to Latvia this weekend where the championship battle between Gajser and Cairoli will resume but can Herlings finally get his first MXGP victory under his belt? It sure is set up to be an awesome GP at a track everyone seems to love!

The MX2 World Championship has been just as competitive as MXGP this year, we have also saw four winners in that class – Jeremy Seewer, Pauls Jonass, Jorge Prado and Thomas Covington. After just six GP’s we have already saw eight different winners over both classes. There are plenty of young, hungry riders in the MX2 class so don’t be surprised to see plenty more winners. Paturel, Lieber and Olsen are likely to win one before the end of the season.
