MXGP race 1

It was the race we wanted Cairoli v Herlings and it didn’t disappoint! Cairoli took the holeshot with Herlings gating just outside the top five but by the end of lap one Herlings was second and chasing Cairoli.

For the next 30 minutes Herlings and Cairoli were inseparable, running similar lap times and Herlings always within 2 seconds as he stalked the legendary race leader. With a couple of laps to go Herlings made the move on the Cairoli but The Italian kept Herlings on the outside of the right hander and from there Herlings aborted his mission and cruised home to second leaving Cairoli to take a brilliant win. Herlings then took his helmet off before after the chequered flag before he even left the track and was gasping for water in the brutal heat while Cairoli looked untroubled doing a big whip as he crossed the line and enjoyed the plaudits from the crowd!


MXGP Race 2 results

Jasikonis lead the 1st lap with Cairoli on his tail and Herlings fighting his way to 3rd. The two KTM boys then set a blistering pace which to Jasikonis credit he tried to follow. Herlings and Cairoli played cat and mouse swapping positions a few times before Jeffrey finally was able to take advantage of a Cairoli mistake. He pulled out a 3 second lead before the heat got to him with 10 minutes still on the clock. Cairoli quickly caught and passed Herlings, setting some incredible lap times to pull a big gap. Herlings mean while was going 12 seconds a lap slower than his own fastest lap and was clearly struggling taking his googles off for air. Anstie was 25 seconds back and nearly caught Herlings on the last lap. After the finish Jeffrey Herlings collapsed on the track, and was unable to appear on the podium or press conference. Cairoli put in an incredible performance today, showing his home fans and competition his fitness, speed and determination is as good as ever!
