An extremely rare MXGP cover photo on leading US-focused magazine Racer X has won the most popular cover of the year in a recent poll on their website.

It is a big shot in the arm for the growing popularity of the world championship in the USA, with credit of course to the brilliant eye-catching picture by Roddy MacLeod who captured world champ, Jeffrey Herlings, navigating a right-hand corner perfectly nestled at the bottom of a powerful mountainous backdrop in Trentino, Italy.

The reader survey was conducted by the magazine in October with MacLeod winning more than 26% of the votes cast.

“It is my first ever Racer X cover, so this is an unexpected honour.” said MacLeod. “It’s Racer X so there were many great covers in 2018 by photographers like Simon Cudby, Jeff Kardas, Rich Shepard, Steve Giberson and Collin Speckner, all of whom are fantastic photographers and who’s work I admire. Of the 12 covers in 2018, this was the only cover from a grand prix, so I think it shows the popularity of the series as well as the new champion, Jeffrey Herlings.”

In celebration of winning the prestigious award, MacLeod says the next 100 customers pre-ordering his book, Will To Victory, will receive a free, signed 8 x 10 inch (20 x 25 cm) print of the award winning photo.
