MXDN RedBud: Cairoli wins eventful MXGP Qualifying race
Antonio Cairoli won an eventful MXGP qualifying race at RedBud that was full of drama. When the gate dropped Cairoli and Roczen were running 1-2 but Jeffrey Herlings crashed after getting a top three start from the twenty-first gate pick. Herlings even went into the pits to lose even more time as he set about coming back from dead last.
At the front, Cairoli pulled away from Roczen to win the race – the Italian rode great decent his crash in Imola just last week. Eli Tomac was putting pressure on Tommy Searle the entire moto for a top five result but couldn’t find his way around the Brit. Tomac’s bike then expired so he DNF’d the race which puts the pressure on America for the remaining qualifying races today.
Tomac wasn’t the only big name to DNF as Clement Desalle also failed to finish the race due to a bike problem.
Alll eyes were on Jeffrey Herlings as he came back from dead last to third to show just how fast he is.
Gary Gibson put in a great ride for Team Ireland as he came home in fourteenth.
