Mitchell Harrison on GP tracks v America

Mitchell Harrison appears to be loving the Grand Prix experience so far but the switched on Bud racing Kawasaki rider is also quickly learning how to adapt on and off the track.

The American calls his Bud racing team his family and says he loves where he is based in France – and he is even trying to learn some French despite many people where he lives being able to speak English!

With some changes including lower mounted footpegs to his Bud racing Kawasaki machine, Harrison says now he feels more comfortable and it is showing in his results with the American now starting to get top ten finishes.

Harrison also admitted it’s very different from the US Nationals, and he has had to change his riding style suit the different tracks in MXGP.

“You have to be really smooth on these tracks,” explained the open-mined and friendly American on the MXGP studio show. “In America you hammer down, I’ve had to change my riding style a lot. I have so many people around me that help me, it’s just been amazing.”

Interestingly, that was the feeling after Red Bud MXoN by many, including legends, Roger DeCoster and Rick Johnson, who noted how the GP men rolled the turns and carried momentum in contrast to the American’s who were slamming berms.

Harrison is clearly learning quickly, and with his CV including a good number of top fives and a podium in the States outdoors, he could be a rider to watch in the future as he adapts to the versatility required for World championship motocross. He has the talent and he appears to be embracing his new life abroad as he chases a world title.
