Martin Barr interview – beating Plessinger!

Martin Barr interview – beating Plessinger!

Martin Barr produced another brilliant display at the Motocross of Nations finishing 7th overall in MX2, one sport ahead of US 250 champ Aaron Plessinger.

And this was no fluke, Barr had the pace of some of the big names all weekend and battled with Plessinger for the majority of both motos as he led Ireland to fantastic 14th place finish alongside Gary Gibson and Richard Bird.

Barr, who is somehow still looking for a ride in 2019 despite being top five in both the EMX2 and British championship, will have done his chances no harm at all as he showed what he can really do when he rides to his potential.

We caught up with Ireland’s man of the moment at the end of the day to get his take on a fantastic individual and team performance in the States.

Another memorable Des Nations, betting another American champion ( he beat Baggett at Lommel) and Ireland got 14th overall, one position better than last year! You must be pretty pleased with how the weekend went for you?

Yeah, coming into the odds were against us, Unfortunately for Stuart and Graeme they were injured and everybody was kind of writing us off. But to be fair to Richard Bird and Gary Gibson, they have been thrown in an the deep end but they have done us all proud and rode absolutely fantastic. As well as Philip McCullough on getting us out here, it has been a fantastic achievement, as you said 14th overall, a spot better than last year.

It was a very enjoyable weekend, that last race, I got going again and I really wanted to pass Plessinger but I just ran out of time. But I got by Jago Geerts and I was out there running with good names. I was seventh overall in MX2. The weekend was fantastic, it was just a pity about the rain but the whole show was really enjoyable. That was my 14th Nations on the bounce and we finished 14th overall, it’s a credit to everybody involved.

You looked good yesterday as well from practice, did you just feel good on the track from the get-go?

Yeah, everything kind of clicked. Qualifying I got a really good time in, unfortunately in my heat race I had a mechanical problem from the gate dropped and that hindered me quite a bit, but we kept pushing and managed to finish 15th. We got in by the skin of our teeth in 19th overall so no B final which was fantastic.

Today everything seemed to click, my Revo Husqvarna was working very good, so big thanks to them. My mechanic Dan and everyone involved in that way. I really enjoyed it and it was nice to finish the season off on a high, I want to do that again next weekend in Lyng.
