Luke Smith makes MX1 switch!

Luke Smith started off the season on a Kawasaki but after the first round of the Irish Championship made the decision to switch to the KTM as he feels the bike suits his riding style much better.

However, due to financial struggles, Smith has now decided to get his hands on a 450cc KTM for the rest of the season so we will be seeing him in the MX1 class from now on.

Smith’s first race on the 450cc will be his home round of the Maxxis British Championship taking place at Desertmartin on Sunday. He’s not the best prepared to ride the bigger bike but with his home crowd behind him he’ll be motivated to do the best he can.

Luke Smith: “Coming into Desertmartin I’m really excited! It’s my favourite track of the year and I know it’s going to be prepped perfectly so I am really looking forward to it, and hopefully everyone comes out on Sunday to support and get behind us local lads.

For Desertmartin, I have decided to move up to a 450 and race MX1. It’s not something I had planned to do at all, and pretty last minute to be honest, however it is and has been a struggle financially running a 250 so far this year, and trying to be competitive on such a low budget. So after riding a 450 a couple of times, and with the help of a personal sponsor of mine, I have decided to make the switch and see how we go. Going into the weekend I have no real expectations with it being an all new bike for me, I’m just going to do the best I can, see where that puts me and then build from there.

A big thank you again to everyone that keeps me on track every week!
