Local riders ready for British Championship on home soil

With the Maxxis British Championship heading to Desertmartin this Sunday, we decided to catch up with the local riders as they prepare for the biggest race of the year on home soil.

In the MX2 class, there will be three Irish riders for the home fans to get behind.

With a number of riders making the move from MX2 to MX1 in recent years, it means there are more riders in MX1 for the local supporters to get behind. There’s five hungry Irish riders racing in MX1 who are all capable of top ten results.

At the moment James Mackrel is a question mark as he’s recently picked up an injury but let’s hope he can line up on Sunday too to make it six Irish riders in MX1.

MX2:

Martin Barr: I’m really looking forward to my home race this weekend, for me it’s by far the best track on the calendar and always very well prepped. I’ll be aiming for the top step although I know it won’t be easy but I’ll be giving it my best shot! A big thanks to Crescent Yamaha, my Dad for his hard work and all my personal sponsors.

Glenn McCormick: I am really looking forward to Desertmartin, who doesn’t? The work that goes in up there is phenomenal, even for an ulster or Irish round, the track is always GP standard and to have a British here is always nice. I don’t really have any expectations coming into the weekend, the past two years I’ve had issues out of my own hands and just a bit unlucky so to have two good finishes will be really good. I would just like to say a big thanks to the unique fitout husqvarna team and all who is in my corner making it all happen – it’s greatly appreciated. I just hope I can repay them all with some good results this weekend.

Jake Sheridan: I’m looking forward to this weekend for the British motocross championship! Last year I went in un-fit and not ready but this year I’m feeling good, fit and ready, so it should be a good days racing.
I’d like to thank my mum and dad and my sponsors Rsrplantservicektm, spanners, fxr, fxrmoto, ccmracing, flynntrasport, westparkfitness.

MX1:

Stuart Edmonds: The past few weeks have been a roller coaster for me. It’s been tough to be honest but I have done all that I can to keep positive, keep working and getting prepared for this weekend. It’s a race I have been looking forward to all year and can’t wait to race in front of everyone.
I know I can run in the top 5, it’s not easy but I know I have that pace! I guess good starts will be my key as they haven’t been the best this year but I am aiming for a top 5 result and I will give it my all to try and achieve it. I have so much to prove to myself, my team and sponsors so it will be nice to come away from this weekend in a top 5 overall spot. It won’t be easy but I have been working hard over the years and eager to produce these results consistently.  Good luck to all the home riders attending this weekend lets make it a weekend to remember. I would like to thank:  My family for sticking by me and helping all they can especially my mam and dad. Laurence, Alistair and Lennie for digging me out this year on the spanners!

Luke Smith: I’m really excited about Desertmartin this weekend. I’ve been getting more and more comfortable every week and over the last few races, so coming back home and to my favourite track is something I’m really looking forward to and hopefully I can continue with the improvements I’ve been making. All I want to do is ride how I can and the results I want will be there. A big thank you goes out to the MSR Redline Team and all of our sponsors that keep me on track and make my racing possible.
