Lawrence: It was a good comeback weekend!

PRZ- A tricky Loket track in the Czech Republic was the location for this weekend’s MXGP, where this time since a long time now the Team 114 motorsports had a good week end. Overnight rain had made the track surface pretty slick but both rider gave their best to end the week end on a good note.

In sixth overall was the returning Team Honda 114 Motorsports rider Hunter Lawrence, who looked like his early-season self with his five-six moto finishes. After taking a couple of rounds off to recover properly from his injuries, Lawrence showed good speed in both races and with slightly luckier starts, he could easily have been challenging for a podium spot.

Bas Vaessen was also fast during the motos, coming through the pack well in the first race to move from 26th after lap one to finish in 13th, having had to avoid an incident in the first turn which caused him to start from way back.

It was a good comeback weekend overall really. In the first moto I got a decent start around 10th which made the race a lot easier. I passed as many people as I could early on and then found myself behind Jonass for pretty much the remainder of the moto. I battled with him for most of it but in the end had to settle for fifth place as it was just too difficult to make a pass stick on this track.

In the second race, another rider completely cut across the track on the start straight, turning the opposite direction to the corner which put me right against the berm and ruined my good jump. I think was outside the top 20 and had to come back through the pack, which I did manage to do, all the way to sixth. I’m happy with that though as it is something to build on and even though there was a bit of fatigue towards the end of the races I think that is pretty normal for my first race back. I’m definitely looking forward to improving for the next couple of races.

We were waiting for a week end like this since a long time ! Both rider’s on the bike and with good results at the end. I was happy to see Hunter riding at this level, it looks like the injury is now a bad memory! Making his come back in the top 5 is almost unexpected !

Bas had a difficult week end, he started in the top 10 in first moto but after a crash in the first lap he had to come back from 27th to 13th which was interesting, unfortunately in 2nd moto he had mechanical issue due to all the stones on the circuit

Let’s move on to Lommel now and hope for even better results »

Bas Vaessen:

For this week end I was really looking forward to make a good result after a good work back in France on the hard pack, in Quali Race I had one the best start since few years and I was really happy about it but I made a small mistake after few laps and lost all the benefits, to end 13th. Sunday first moto, the start wasn’t really good but still alright, but someone made a mistake just in front of me and I dropped back to 27th. I had a good rhythm and good lines so I manage to come back 13th. Second moto the start wasn’t much better, but after few laps I had problems with my front brake so I couldn’t fight for points . I’m quiet happy about my riding the rest is racing unfortunately.
