Round nine of the MXGP World Championship was hosted in Latvia which meant it was a home GP for Pauls Jonass.

After a strong qualifying race for the former MX2 World Champion, he’d have been hoping for a strong GP in front of his home crowd.

However, in the first moto, Jonass took a crash and hurt his eyelid – there was a lot of blood but the determined Latvian battled through the pain and came through the field to end up seventeenth.

After the moto, Jonass needed to get stitches on his eyelid but came home in a solid sixth in moto two to end the weekend on a high.

“Sunday, bloody Sunday! Came through 17-6 with a few stitches on my eyelid after the first moto. Obviously not how i wanted this weekend to go, but gotta give it to my fans for always being there for me”, Jonass posted on social media.
