JK Yamaha draft in Tom Grimshaw

The JK Yamaha team have been hit with injuries so needed an MX2 World Championship rider for Lommel this weekend.

They’ve decided to give a chance to young British talent, Tom Grimshaw who’s been having a promising season in the MX2 Maxxis British Championship. Grimshaw currently sits twelfth in the series but will be hoping to break into the top ten.

This weekend is a huge opportunity for the young Brit as he’ll race the MX2 World Championship at a gnarly Lommel circuit. There’s no doubt he’ll learn lots racing with the best 250cc riders in the world.

Grimshaw joins up with Adam Kovacs (EMX125) and Manuel Iacopi (EMX250) under the JK Yamaha awning this weekend.

“Well one of their riders had got injured and they needed a fill in rider asap. I was already out in Belgium at the time training when we got a call from our Italian friend Claudio who has ties with the team saying there was an available spot and several people had put my name forward for the ride so I took it with both hands! So big thanks to Claudio”, Grimshaw commented.

“I’ve definitely picked the hardest GP to do as my first but when you get an opportunity like this there was no way I was turning it down so I know it is going to be tough but there are no expectations apart from ride the bike, learn and most importantly have fun!  I don’t have any expectations, Just got to go out there ride like I have been and where ever I end up, I end up.
Again a big thanks to Claudio, the JK Yamaha squad for giving me this opportunity and my original sponsors for the great support they are giving me”, Grimshaw added.
