The very talented Steven Clarke and Conrad Mewse have been World Champions in the past in the 85cc category and this year another Brit followed in their footsteps.
Eddie Jaywade was in impressive form in Estonia and won both of the moto’s to clinch the 85cc World Championship. They are hard titles to come by but Jaywade will be hoping this won’t be the last.
We asked him about his weekend and also got Ashley Wilde’s thoughts who has been working with him as part of the RMJ Academy.
Eddie Jaywade: “Going into the European finals at Loket I knew I had the speed to win.
After Qualifying on pole there and leading the the opening moto by a good margin I carried the momentum into this weekend and kept the ball rolling with a perfect weekend again qualifying on pole and going 1-1.
Winning the world championship means the world to me, I’ve worked really hard this year to be world champion and to show everyone I can do it on hard tracks and sand tracks makes it even better.
This all wouldn’t be possible without the help from my parents and all my sponsors.”
Ashley Wilde: “Eddie was one of the first riders that I worked with when I began working for the RMJ Academy. To see how far he has come from then to now is amazing! His attitude and mental determination towards racing really does amaze me.
This year the work him and his family have put driving all over Europe is incredible! This really is a nice reward for all their hard work. I’m really honoured and privileged I was able to be a part of him reaching his goal of becoming World champion!”
