It’s EMX250 for Hofer

Young Austrian talent, Rene Hofer has confirmed he will start the season by contesting the EMX250 championship as a member of the KTM Junior Racing team.

Hofer looked odds on to win the EMX125 series last year before injury meant he had to miss the second half of the season. It meant young French talent, Thibault Bénistant took advantage and won the title.

After recovering from his injury, Hofer got back on the bike at the beginning of the year and has been getting used to the 250cc KTM.

Hofer has confirmed he will start the season in the EMX250 championship but could have the opportunity to contest some MX2 World Championship rounds as well.

The Austrian will be back behind the gate this weekend as he races the second round of the International Italian Championship taking place at Ottobiano as a warm up race for the season ahead.

“Two months after my crash, I was finally allowed to walk normally, so I started rehabilitation at the Red Bull Diagnostic and rainings center. We did lots of Physiotherapy there and started to get back to my physical strengths. After the third surgery (got all the metal stuff out) I went to see the doctor mid of december and everything went as planned. So we started riding on some easy tracks, just with small jumps, to make sure that there‘s not too much pressure on the pelvis area”.

“With the new year beginning, we started riding normally and since then, we were making progress every day. I know it was a huge injury and four months off the bike is a long time. But we got in some time on the bike and we go into the first pre-season race without any expectations. I just want to get this racing feeling back and try to gain some experience in the big boys‘ class. We will start the season racing the EMX250 and ADAC championship, but we will see what the rest of the season brings. I have a great team behind me and when it counts we‘ll be ready to race. A huge shout out to all the people, who helped me on the way back, especially my family, my mechanic, my coach, the doctors and the physiotherapists. It was a tough time but now we are back.”, Hofer told GateDrop.com.
