Irish Championship RD2: Preview!
The 2017 Irish Motocross Championships crosses the border next Saturday for Round 2 in a busy week for Quad Racing Ireland at their atmospheric Tinker Hill Circuit just north of Newry.
After the first round in Vernon Mount Cork, the Premier MX1 Class, TM mounted Dubliner Stuart Edmonds holds a slender 1 point lead over Lisburn Man Richard Bird on his KTM, followed by Risk Racing Honda mounted Robert Hamilton from Portavogie 3 points adrift of Bird, Southern riders fill the next three places with Jim O’Neill, Stephen Mullaly and Jordan Dunne in close pursuit.
The Semi Expert MX1 Class is led by Ronan Potterton who turned in a perfect score of three wins from three starts, second is Kircubbin man Bob Smith, with Kevin Donnelly third, Daniel Jarzebinski is fourth followed by Jamie Brown and Keith Vaughan.
The Premier MX2 Class Loughbrickland man Jason Meara leads by 11 points from Dubliner Jordan Keogh, with Ballymoneys Jordan McCaw third, young Larne star Cameron Turley is fourth, Dylan Stynes and Stephen Kelly round out the top six.
Semi Expert MX2 is led by Cailum Devlin, the young Lougbrickland rider surprising himself after a recent injury by leading the Championship from Kelin Gates with Ruari McKeown third, Michael Clyde fourth and Magherafelt man Jake Hall fifth.
Clubman MX1was won by Dan Forest with three from three, with Ray Kerr second and Brian Presho third, while Clubman MX2 had a similarly unfamiliar look with Maciej Goldyn winning from Stephen Coakley and Barry Ussher, it remains to be seen whether all these names will complete the series, lets hope as it is always good to see new names coming through.
In the Vets/Over 35’s Class, ex Grand Prix star Lawrence Spence ran out the winner of the Veterans Class, with Colm Duignan second and George Radley third, while Mark Mooney won Grade A from Richard Watt and Daryl Maguire, Semi Expert was scooped up by Stephen McCarthy and Clubman by Sandis Katkins.
Racing begins at 11.oo at the circuit which will be signposted off the old A1 road, entry is £5 for adults, under 14’s go free.
