Gatedrop: Klemen, it’s recently been announced you will expand your team for the 2019 season. I know this is something you’ve tried to do for a number of years now. What made it all possible to happen next year?

Klemen Gerčar: Many things in life depends from various situations, so I learned that sometimes, you have to wait for the right moment. It was the same with expanding my team for the 2019 season.

Gatedrop: There’s a lot of young riders looking rides out there, what made take the decision to sign Luka Milec for 2019? What do you see in him?

Klemen Gerčar: I know Luka for many years and I know that he has big potential. The last few years he had some issues with finding the right support. We made a plan and I’m sure results will follow.

Gatedrop: You’ve also signed Jaka Peklaj who will ride the 85cc next year. I have to say I’d never heard of him before Loket this year but he was so fast there on the 65cc! In terms of the future he has plenty of potential?

Klemen Gerčar: I have been working a bit with Jaka since 2017 as his manager, and for 2019 we found the best solution to join all forces. Signing such a young talent in SIXTYTWO Motosport Husqvarna MXGP team is very important for the future of our team.

Gatedrop: This year do you still intend on racing the European rounds of the MXGP World Championship or will you maybe not race as much to help Luka and Jaka?

Klemen Gerčar: It’s important for the team to have an MXGP rider who can score some points during the season. I love to race so it was an easy choice. Sure, my focus will also be on Luka and Jaka, as they are the future of SIXTYTWO Motosport Husqvarna MXGP team.

Gatedrop: With two other riders under the awning in 2019, you are going to be busy! Are you looking forward to working and helping other riders?

Klemen Gerčar: During the week I run SIXTYTWO academy with 6 selected young riders riding 50ccm and 65ccm. They have a chance to reach their potential and one day become professional riders in our team.

Gatedrop: In terms of the long term target, obviously you won’t be racing forever. Do you see the team staying in existence when you retire?

Klemen Gerčar: Of course! The team is my main goal for the future. Managing the team is also my passion as I always need to put the things together to race.

Gatedrop: In terms of the future, will you try to work the team up to being a World Championship team?

Klemen Gerčar: The SIXTYTWO motosport Husqvarna MXGP team is officially approved team by Youthstream and licensed by FIM . We will do our best to keep that position also in the future with top riders in MXGP and MX2.

Gatedrop: In terms of Milec, what are your expectations for him in 2019?

Klemen Gerčar: We have a lot of homework to do with Luka. He has a will to do it and that is enough. Our goal is to be a top ten EMX250 rider in 2019.

Gatedrop: In terms of the off-season, have you got a plan for the team yet about where they will test and what races the team will contest?

Klemen Gerčar: The pre-season is very important, so we will work hard to do testing and good training on proper tracks. The north of Italy will be our territory for the upcoming months.

Gatedrop: You’ve been racing MXGP for a number of years now, just how would you describe the level in the class now? It seems deeper than ever!

Klemen Gerčar: The sport is getting on a very professional level and for sportsmen there are no limits. Every year there seems to be more competition in MXGP class and I think it is right. MXGP is the highest level of motocross racing on the planet right now.

Gatedrop: Anyone you’d like to thank?

Klemen Gerčar: Behind a good rider there is always a good team, and to build the team with the big letter you need the right people. If I personally thank every single one, we probably would need a few pages. Many thanks to all sponsors, the crew behind the team to make my dream into the reality. Thank you.
