Interview: Eddie Jay Wade on joining F4E KTM

Interview: Eddie Jay Wade on joining F4E KTM

It’s been announced that young British talent, Eddie Jay Wade will be on the move for 2019. After spending a season with the Jezyk KTM team, Wade has agreed a deal with the F4E KTM team in 2019 which means he will spend a lot more time in Belgium on the deep sand tracks.

“The deal came about after KTM asked me to join a team based in Belgium so I could train more in sand which to be honest, I do need more time in the soft stuff compared to the normal hard pack I ride. I loved my time at Jezyk who were brilliant and the bike was spot on. I choose FMX4EVER (F4E) for many reasons also my team mates are long standing friends and Jimmy Verburgh runs such a professional impressive team it was an easy choice. I also know Jimmy through Paco Rico my trainer in Spain”.

Now Jay Wade has had his rookie year behind him in the EMX125 class, he goes into 2019 as one of the title contenders.

“My expectations for next year are to be in the top 5 EMX if I can get the starts dialled better than this year I am confident to run at the front, as everyone knows who has competed in the 125 EMX class its tough, but this year I qualified for all races and my times were good even mid pack but my starts let me down badly”. Reflected Wade.

“The 2018 season looked to start really well but 10 days before Valkenswaard I broke my collarbone and although it set me back for the first race of the year the following races I made good progress looking to break into the top 10 after Germany mid way through the season even after a DNF in Italy and a non starter for the first race. But then in France I had a DNF with the mud just grinding the bike to a halt it fell apart a bit in the last few rounds. Australia was a bummer on the bike data I would have set the 3rd quickest time had I have travelled 20 metres more on the bike, I high sided breaking my femur. Even though track doctors diagnosed a bad bruise and I would be fit to ride on Sunday I knew it was more serious, after a trip to the hospital and 36 hours later my leg was pinned and I have been off the bike until Christmas Eve. I normally take about 10 weeks off at the end off the season so just a little longer this year. But to sum it up it was a good learning year”. Wade commented on his rookie season in the EMX125 class.

“For 2018 I would like to say a massive thanks to KTM Factory Racing and WP suspension also K-Tech suspension based in the UK their products and knowledge always giving me the confidence to push the limit, Michelin tyres always spot on, MJWspecialists from the beginning gave me the power to be where I am today. CISport for their support, Troy Lee Designs, Alpinestars, Motorex Oil, Jezyk Racing Team, Flow Motion Racing, Scott Sports, CTI Knee braces, RMJ Accademy, Bodeen Moto, Milwaukee Tool GB. Thanks for all the support from the UK although I spend most of my time in Spain I really appreciate the support and encouragement I receive from everyone”.
