Interview: David Herbreteau on a tough few years and his future

There’s no doubting David Herbreteau’s talent but since making the step up to the MX2 World Championship things haven’t gone as expected. He was always at the front in the EMX125 and EMX250 classes but he would have expected better results in the MX2 World Championship.

The French talent has been with some good team’s in the form of HRC Honda, F&H Kawasaki and VHR KTM to name a few.

For the 2019 season, Herbreteau has confirmed to us he will race the EMX250 Championship in what he will use as a platform to try and show what he’s capable of and hopefully force his way back into the MX2 World Championship in the future.

We caught up with Herbreteau to discuss the last few years which have been difficult for him and his plans for the 2019 season.

On his last few years..

The last few years have been difficult for me. I moved up too early to the big classes and it messed up the beginning of my pro career. A lot of good teams give me good opportunities and I didn’t take it serious enough. I didn’t work enough on my side except for 2017. However, this is in the past I can’t go back, I don’t want to talk about it anymore.
2018 was a good year to show what I can do but a lot things happened, I had family problems, not enough work on the bike as well as 7 dislocated shoulders.

On his future..

My plans for 2019 are going well. I will ride the EMX250 series and the French championship and will hopefully do some GP’s as well. My long time friend Antoine Rigaudeau who has the OXMOTO MX SHOP will be the one who will make it all possible for 2019. He will give me bikes, parts and all the other stuff I need to do a good season. I will be within a team but I can’t say the name yet actually because of one of the personal sponsors. The announcement will be made in January. I would like also to thank them for their trust and the help they give me for the 2019 season.

Expectations for 2019..

I actually want to be at the top of both the championships I will do, that’s what I will work for. I have a big planning of training every week because I’m working every morning from 7:30 to 13:00. I will have busy day waking up at 6:00 doing my fitness, going to work, going to train or going to do sports again. But I have no other options and I will give everything I have to show what the real David Herbreteau is capable of doing. I know that this is the last chance I have and I don’t want to have any regrets anymore.

I would like to thank everybody that is still believing in me. I just want to say I will never forget and not going to miss this chance.
